The Big Bike Ride comes to Stoke

8 August 2016 by admin in Blog

Let Children Play and Heal

The Big Bike Ride is an initiative by supporters of Palestinian people which combines a love of cycling with practical solidarity and awareness raising especially around the plight of the children of Gaza.

Thanks to Jen and Daryl for putting in the work so that Sumud Palestine was able lay on a good show of welcoming the cyclists taking part in the Big Bike Ride.

Standing at the entrance to Staffordshire University campus with Palestinian flags and Free Palestine and Homes not Drones placards it was very heartening that so many cars passing along the Leek Road hooted their horns in support. When the cyclists had washed ad changed Jen and Daryl led them down to the Rose of Kashmir for supper and some short speeches. Eating together affirmed that none of us will lessen our solidarity for a Free Palestine and that ‘history is on our side.’ The cyclists are now proceeding to Birmingham and on Monday they will arrive at the Israeli UAV Factory in Shenstone. Some of us will be there to add our voice to their protest for Homes not Drones!

Sumud Palestine was especially pleased that some of our Pakistani brethren joined us. Let’s have more collaborative efforts!

Thank you. Angela
