Commenting on the olive tree planting programme, Ali Muhamad Zawara said:
‘There are no words to describe the gratitude I feel. I hope that some members of the group will visit the field again in four or five years’ time, to see how the trees have grown.‘
The crops Ali Muhamed grows are vitally important for him and his large family. Besides olive trees, he grows seasonal crops like chickpeas and fig trees. No crop beats the olive tree Palestinian culture. It is the “pillar of the house” and to be a holy tree and with good reason. An olive tree provides food for decades and olives can also be used for making soap and the tree’s wood for heating.’
