The Chantry Group, meeting at the Royal Foundation of St Katherine in Limehouse, London offered me an opportunity to speak about Palestine.
I’ve seldom worked harder to prepare as I was to share the morning with a speaker from the Israeli Committee Against House Demolitions who had just returned from a month in Israel and the West Bank! She brought a power point presentation and a short film. I felt daunted! I wondered if I should speak off the cuff but I decided I had nothing to lose by sticking with my prepared text. It was as well as I did.
After my talk we broke for coffee and I was given a cheque for £100 and by the end of the weekend £425.25 had been collected.
I’m so grateful to Helen Burnett for making this happen and the young musicians who contributed so much by their delightful concert on Saturday evening at which I read a short paragraph from Raja Shehadeh’s Occupation Diaries. All in all a brilliant occasion – and I learned more about ICAHD.
Another time, I must remember to get photos!
