West Midlands PSC hosted a book launch for Max Blumenthal in Birmingham on 1 August. Max was in Gaza last summer and in his extraordinary and penetrating account of Israel’s attack which he classes as a war as Hamas fought back, he dissects the military orders which preceded the conflict in which civilians, women and children were legitimate targets. He detailed the battles that took place between Israeli forces and the armed guerilla factions of the Gaza Strip, explaining their military and political significance.
It was a privilege to hear him talk about Gaza and what had led him, as a Jew and a journalist, to devote his talent to recording and analysing with dispassionate objectivity Israel’s descent into an apartheid and fascist state. The book launch was one of many and by the end of the afternoon he looked tired but, as he commented, at least there were no Zionist protestors outside and samosas and pakoras made a welcome change from tea and biscuits!
