Casting around for ways to raise money Jim Kinnibrugh came up with an inspired suggestion to ask a Camilla, a member of Stafford’s own world music vocal group, Fish from Oblivion, if Fish would sing for Palestine. Thus it came about that around 45 people gathered in St Dominic’s Sports Hall on Saturday to hear Camilla, Neil, Gerry, Helen and Tim sing songs from around the world about exile and migration, separation and loss and finding hope and our common humanity through music. Each set was thoughtfully introduced by Tim and Camilla, having been coached by Salem Maarabouni, sung a Palestinian lullaby in Arabic!
Fish have their own following and which was as well as there were only a few known supporters of Sumud Palestine among the audience. This was a pity. We must find way us of engaging more people to support Sumud’s fund raising but as it was, they missed a very delightful evening which raised a total of £271, the final pounds being donated by Fish as a portion of the sale money of their DVD.
A BIG THANK YOU TO FISH FROM OBLIVION. Maybe (tongue in cheek!) a repeat next year.
