Press Release:Over the last year, Sumud Palestine’s mental health project has focused on establishing a Palestinian Association for Behavioural and Cognitive Therapies (PABCT). On Tuesday the 9th June professionals from many places in Palestine will gather in Ramallah to launch the association.
The founding committee led by Sumud Palestine’s founder, Mohammed Mukhaimar, will present a draft constitution and terms of reference to be discussed and voted on by the members present. Sumud is sponsoring travel to and from a hotel hall in Ramallah where the meeting will take place.
The meeting will be opened by Mohammed Mukhaimar via Skype followed by Huandia Iseed and Farah Darwaze, who will chair the meeting and present the draft constitution. Following its adoption, the association will be inaugurated and the founding committee will lead until the first board election in the general meeting pencilled in for May-June 2016.
Sumud Palestine will remain committed to supporting the PABCT and organising partners, the Palestinian Counselling Centre and Guidance and Training Centre.
Delegates from Nablus arrived late because Israeli soldiers refused to allow them through a checkpoint and they had to find another route. However, the latest news (4.00pm on Tuesday) is that the proposed constitution has been adopted and the association is now formally constituted. This is a moment to be relished.
